School Project in Kenya

LATEST NEWS

Since 2015 Glenstal Abbey School has been doing an educational project with schools in the Olkirmatian Arid Zone of southern Kenya. It has brought blessings to all concerned: the minds and hearts of Glenstal students have been opened a little wider and the Kenyan schools have benefited from some infrastructural developments and informational technology.

Thanks to the bake sale on Parents’ Day 2022, which yielded €2400, and another most generous fundraising event involving parents of past pupils during the summer, sufficient funds were raised to meet the cost of installing a solar power system in the school where the last ‘crew’ of Glenstal boys had worked, namely Pattersons Memorial School (Kajiado, Kenya). That was in 2019, before Covid. Now the young African students have electricity in all classrooms and can study at night! Power can be diverted to different parts of the school as needs arise. Such good fortune cannot be assumed in remote parts of Sub-Saharan Africa and the African youths are very glad of this improvement. Hopefully it will be possible for a group of Glenstal students to return to Kenya in July 2023. For the moment, we extend the deepest gratitude to all who supported this project last year!
