The Art Department aspires to develop curiosity, sensitivity and visual literacy, which enable students to observe and perceive the world with increased awareness. We hope to foster a lifelong appreciation of art and visual culture through practical art-making and creativity. The practical work can include Life Sketching, Still Life, Imaginative Composition, Design and Craftwork. Crafts on offer include Poster design, Woodblock & Lino Printing, Ceramics, Batik, Calligraphy and Puppetry. Students also study the History and Appreciation of Art, which covers Irish and European Art, and Art Appreciation. Students also visit galleries and museums to develop an awareness and enjoyment of the visual world around them.
